{"id":6716,"date":"2010-06-24T13:03:35","date_gmt":"2010-06-24T17:03:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=6716"},"modified":"2010-07-02T23:19:21","modified_gmt":"2010-07-03T03:19:21","slug":"canadas-best-superbike-riders-ready-for-mosport-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/motorbikes\/canadas-best-superbike-riders-ready-for-mosport-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada\u2019s Best Superbike Riders Ready For Mosport Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The racing in Mosport&#8217;s next major event shifts to the two-wheel variety as Canada&#8217;s top motorcycle riders will compete in the Parts Canada Superbike Doubleheader Weekend, July 9-11, 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Headlining the weekend is the Superbike class, as defending Series champion Jordan Szoke of Brantford continues his pursuit of a record seventh Superbike crown and fifth in a row.\u00a0 The 31-year-old is off to a great start, winning the first race of the season, his 30th career Superbike win, at Circuit ICAR just outside of Montreal.\u00a0 The Series veteran was able to hold off teammate Jodi Christie, 17, of Keene, ON, who finished less than a second behind Szoke.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: black 1px solid;\" title=\"Parts Canada Superbike Championship\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myracingimages.com\/galleries\/MOTORBIKES\/Yoshimura-Pro-Parts-Canada-Superbike-4\/photos\/Racing_Pro_Superbikes_2A1419.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"327\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Brantford star and his Honda CBR1000RR will face stiff competition from a number of riders who will be looking to halt Szoke&#8217;s title run. Kevin Lacombe, 27, of Ste-Cesaire, QC, on his Suzuki GSX-R1000 finished third in the season opener.\u00a0 Uxbridge native Alex Welsh will have extra motivation as it will be a home-race for the 22-year-old.\u00a0 Welsh spent last season as Szoke&#8217;s understudy on the Kawasaki&#8217;s.\u00a0 The BMW S1000RR&#8217;s will be making their North American debuts this summer.\u00a0 Two-time Superbike champion Francis Martin of Sherbrooke and teammate Mike Ferreira of Mississauga will ride on Rush HD\/BMW Mortorrad motorcycles.<\/p>\n<p>Szoke will also compete in the Yoshimura Pro Sport Bike class as he looks win a fifth straight title in the sport bike as well.\u00a0 He was able to take an early lead in the points standing by edging his teammate Christie.\u00a0 As Szoke continues his pursuit for another title he will be chased by Jean-Francois Cyr of Ste-Adele, QC on his Suzuki GSX-R600, Kaladar, ON, James Collins on his Yamaha YZF-R6 and the Deely Harley- Davidson\/Ruthless Racing Buell 1125R combo of Vancouver native Darren James and Florida resident David Estok.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: black 1px solid;\" title=\"Jordan Szoke\" src=\"http:\/\/www.myracingimages.com\/galleries\/MOTORBIKES\/Yoshimura-Pro-Parts-Canada-Superbike-1\/photos\/1_Jordan_Szoke_Kawasaki_ZX_6R_10R_2A0807.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"328\" \/>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The first-ever electric motorcycle race in Canada will take place at Mosport over the weekend.\u00a0 The TTXGP eGrand Prix will hold four rounds in North America this season.\u00a0 It will be the only Canadian stop for the Series, with Mosport hosting round three.\u00a0 These bikes are powered without the use of carbon based fuels and have zero toxic\/noxious emissions.\u00a0 When they hit the 10-turn road course, they will be out to prove that being clean and green can be lean and mean.<\/p>\n<p>The Honda CBR125R Challenge supplies riders with an excellent venue for development, teaching riding technique and racing skill.\u00a0 All participants use the same type Honda CBR125R single-cylinder motorcycles.\u00a0 Many of the young racers go on to the higher levels of competition such as the Amateur Sport Bike.\u00a0 Ryan Appenrodt of Quesnel, British Columba won both races at Mosport in 2009.\u00a0 He kicked off his 2010 campaign by winning both dashes in the season opener and has put himself out in front for the series title.\u00a0 Loic Viscasillas of Laval, QC, finished second at Circuit ICAR and Sarnia&#8217;s Will Hornblower rounded out the top-three.<\/p>\n<p>Also on the schedule for the Doubleheader Weekend will be the Armour Bodies Amateur Sport Bike, the all-new K&amp;amp;N Filter&#8217;s Sports Twins Pro\/Am and the Pro Honda Oils Women&#8217;s Cup..<\/p>\n<p>Off track, BMW Motorrad Summerfest returns to Mosport for its fourth year.\u00a0 Designed to cater to the motorcycle enthusiast, Summerfest is a motorcycle lifestyle experience that features the BMW Marketplace, on and off-road test rides and an off-road skills course.\u00a0 Once you?ve had the chance to try your skills, sit back and enjoy performances by the Streetbike Freestyle World Champion, Chris Pfeiffer.\u00a0 The German ace thrilled audiences when he last performed at Mosport in 2007.\u00a0 Music is a big attraction at Summerfest, and the area will be rocking on Saturday afternoon and evening with a live concert showcasing Canadian music talent.<\/p>\n<p>Along with BMW Motorrad, Honda and Suzuki will also be offering demo rides on their latest models around the neighbouring roads near Mosport throughout the weekend. Registration is in the paddock and participants must have a valid motorcycle license, riding gear and helmet. Be sure to sign-up early because all of the time slots go quickly.<\/p>\n<p>The two-wheel action Begins on Friday (July 9) with a full-day of practice.\u00a0 Qualifying and races in all classes will take place on Saturday (July 10) and Sunday (July 11).<\/p>\n<p>The three-day weekend SuperTicket is just $50 until July 7 ($60 at the Gate). Single-day tickets are also available.\u00a0 Each ticket includes parking, access to the race team paddock, Motorsport Expo and Marketplace, the BMW Motorrad SummerFest and admission to Mosport Speedway&#8217;s Saturday Night Stock Car racing at the half-mile paved oval located on the grounds.<\/p>\n<p>As with all Mosport events, children 12 and under are admitted for free when accompanied by a paid adult admission.<\/p>\n<p>Camping is available, with advanced general camping passes just $35 for the weekend when purchased before July 7 (tents or pop-up trailers).
