TORONTO (July 16, 2010) \u2013 The concept of Free Friday at the track proved to be a great way to attract fans to the Honda Indy Toronto, while helping Make-a-Wish\u00ae Canada at the same time.<\/p>\n
Fans and families came out in droves to attend Ontario\u2019s largest annual sporting event, taking advantage of the unique promotion generously offered by Ontario Honda Dealers Association.<\/p>\nngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n
\u201cIt was a win-win situation for everyone,\u201d said Jennifer Ritter, Chief Executive Officer for Make-A-Wish\u00ae Canada. \u201cThis partnership with Honda is helping raise awareness for our foundation and getting us closer to granting wishes to every child with and for whom we work.\u201d<\/p>\n
As intended, a good percentage of people in attendance were discovering racing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is great,\u201d said Todd English, who took his son Matthew and daughter Kaitlin to Exhibition Place for the first time. \u201cI wanted to see what my kids thought of racing before paying for tickets, and now I know they\u2019ve enjoyed it very much.\u201d<\/p>\n
The highlight for many fans was catching a good glimpse of Canadian racecar drivers Paul Tracy and Alex Tagliani.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really cool to see the drivers, trucks (transporters) and their cars,\u201d said nine-year-old Matthew English. The cars are really fast and loud.\u201d<\/p>\n
When asked what car was his favorite, it wasn\u2019t one of the Indy cars that caught his eye: \u201cI like the NSX in the Honda display,\u201d he added with a grin.<\/p>\n
Families were able to watch a lengthy list of races including the IZOD IndyCar Series, Firestone Indy Lights, NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, Acura Sports Car Challenge, Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship and the SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series.<\/p>\n
Additionally, there were a number of activities to entertain them, including the \u2018Auto Expo\u2019 which featured fine cars and a variety of racecars, driver autograph sessions, the Pizza Pizza Family Zone, live music, motorcycle stunt shows, interactive games and exhibits and a variety of displays and merchandise.<\/p>\n
