{"id":9456,"date":"2010-11-07T09:59:49","date_gmt":"2010-11-07T14:59:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=9456"},"modified":"2010-11-07T09:59:49","modified_gmt":"2010-11-07T14:59:49","slug":"lotus-engine-switch-not-cosworths-fault-gascoyne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/lotus-engine-switch-not-cosworths-fault-gascoyne\/","title":{"rendered":"Lotus engine switch not Cosworth&#8217;s fault &#8211; Gascoyne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lotus did not split with Cosworth because the British supplier&#8217;s engine was not good enough.<\/p>\n<p>That is the claim of Mike Gascoyne, after deciding to break a longer contract with Cosworth ahead of 2011 to agree deals with Renault and Red Bull.<\/p>\n<p>As did HRT and Virgin, Lotus has used the Xtrac gearbox that came bundled with the Cosworth engine in 2010 and was disappointed with the unit&#8217;s performance and reliability.<\/p>\n<p>Gascoyne told redbull.com: &#8220;Unfortunately this year their (Cosworth&#8217;s) partner let them down very badly.\u00a0 We struggled all year and frankly they haven&#8217;t got on top of it even now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Lotus will use a Renault engine attached to a Red Bull gearbox next year and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cosworth were certainly a victim of something that wasn&#8217;t their doing.\u00a0 Certainly the reliability of the drivetrain package was the driving factor in our decision to change,&#8221; added Gascoyne.<\/p>\n<p>HRT has decided to use a Williams gearbox in 2011, but Virgin is sticking with its chosen route for now.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ours is a little bit different (a situation) in that it is pretty much our own gearbox with internals manufactured elsewhere,&#8221; explained team boss John Booth.<br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #888888;\">\u00a0\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lotus did not split with Cosworth because the British supplier&#8217;s engine was not good enough.
