{"id":9864,"date":"2010-11-26T08:25:22","date_gmt":"2010-11-26T13:25:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/?p=9864"},"modified":"2010-11-26T08:25:22","modified_gmt":"2010-11-26T13:25:22","slug":"porsche-boss-plays-down-f1-foray-likelihood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.racinginfocus.com\/rif\/formula-1\/porsche-boss-plays-down-f1-foray-likelihood\/","title":{"rendered":"Porsche boss plays down F1 foray likelihood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Porsche&#8217;s new boss has played down speculation the marque might soon enter formula one.<\/p>\n<p>In October, Matthias Mueller sparked the rumours by saying Volkswagen brands including Audi and Porsche would have a &#8220;round-table&#8221; to contemplate a F1 foray.<\/p>\n<p>Porsche&#8217;s research and development boss Wolfgang Durheimer then said Porsche &#8220;can afford&#8221; to enter formula one &#8220;with its own team&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>But in a new interview with Germany&#8217;s Westfalen Blatt newspaper, chief executive Mueller is now playing down that possibility.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Formula one is a drivers&#8217; world championship, with the focus on the sponsors and the manufacturers only secondary,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For us, this is a clear drawback.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The second drawback for such a long-term investment is the unclear rules for the future.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But if the VW Group was interested, then Porsche would surely be the brand that would work best for this,&#8221; added Mueller.<\/p>\n<p>After forays in the 50s and 60s, German marque Porsche supplied engines to McLaren in the 80s.\u00a0 Its most recent F1 project was the failed collaboration in 1991 with Arrows.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #888888;\">\u00a9 RIF | GMM<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Porsche&#8217;s new boss has played down speculation the marque might soon enter formula one.
