Doctor says Schu’s neck no longer injured

Michael Schumacher’s doctor on Tuesday gave the seven time world champion’s neck a clean bill of health.

After the German completed 40 laps in the new Mercedes W01 on Monday, Dr Johannes Peil at Valencia would not confirm whether Schumacher’s high profile injury of last summer was now in the past.

Reports referred to “secret” evening tests on Schumacher’s neck, and when asked about the injury Peil replied: “I’m superstitious, so we wait and see.”

Schumacher sat out Tuesday’s running in deference to Nico Rosberg, and was photographed riding a road bicycle out of the paddock.

Dr Peil told the German news agency DPA: “He is now in the normal cycle and can train to the normal extent.”

He added on Tuesday that the winner of a record 91 grands prix is “back to normal” following his motorcycle testing crash early last year, and “can now concentrate on driving again”.
