On the Rise – Gibson Racing

As hype for the 2011 season ramps up, Gibson Racing looks forward to an exciting and challenging year ahead.

The Burlington based team is relatively new but their experience is far from limited. The driver for the team, Dylan Gibson, is no stranger to the race track as he has been racing for more than 10 years. Gibson started racing go-karts when he was nine and immediately fell into place in the world of racing. Over the coming years, Gibson would go on to achieve numerous victories and championships.

In 2006 alone, he was awarded 3rd in points at Mosport Karting, came 2nd in Ontario in the Sunoco Ron Fellows Series and came 4th in Canada at the Canadian Grand Nationals in Edmonton.

When he was 16, Gibson made the transition from go-karting to open wheel race cars in the 2008 Formula 1200 Championship. His success in open wheel racing was immediate with three consecutive 2nd place finishes in his F1200 début weekend. In his rookie year, Gibson would attain 10 top five finishes and take 4th place in the Championship standings.

In 2009, Jeff Wenzel of Toronto Tirecraft approached Gibson and offered him the opportunity to race in Grand Touring Sedan. Gibson, a rookie to Sedan car racing, came out of the gates running. His 2009 season in GT6 saw consistent successful results, including three consecutive 2nd place finishes in one race weekend. In total, Gibson tallied 9 top five finishes, placed 2nd in the Warbonnet three hour endurance race and came 1st at the new Calabogie Motorsports Park. Gibson’s persistence and hard work would reward him with a 4th place overall finish in the GT6 season standings.

2010 would bring a new set of challenges as Gibson, paired with Toronto Tirecraft, prepared to race in the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship. Unfortunately, extenuating circumstances would impede Gibson from being able to compete in the CCTCC. Undeterred, Gibson instead drove in the GT3 class at Mosport. Gibson, who was new to the car, only had a morning session on Saturday to get used this unique Mazda rotary powered Toyota. Gibson proved quickly that he could drive anything he sat in, as he rocketed to a 3rd place finish in the GT Challenge one hour endurance and also came 3rd place in GT Sprints.

Gibson Racing is currently in the midst of seeking sponsorship to help with the costs of running in the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship in the 2011 season. Dylan Gibson will be competing in a newly purchased 2003 Honda Civic SiR in the Touring class. Gibson Racing is dedicated to outstanding results and continued consistency and hopes to achieve even greater results in the 2011 race season.
