Muscle Milk Team Cytosport Aiming To Bounce Back In Canada

To say that Muscle Milk Team CytoSport is motivated heading into the penultimate round of the 2010 American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón at Mosport International Raceway would be an understatement.

The team is coming off a heartbreaking second place finish at Road America last weekend that saw the Drayson Racing Lola get by Klaus Graf in the second to last corner of the last lap of the event to take away a win that was only a few hundred yards away.

Initially, the team had thought the car had run out of fuel on account of the alert from the low fuel alarm the Porsche RS Spyder is equipped with, but upon further review, it turned out to be a GT car that forced Graf to slow down entering the final turns, giving Johnny Cocker the perfect opportunity to get by.

Had Graf run out of fuel, he would have been stranded on track, which was not the case. The excellent fuel mileage calculations combined with Graf’s management of fuel gave the team a tenth podium finish in as many starts since last season and a sixth this year.

The team has its sights set on erasing the heartbreaking memory by taking at Mosport what should have been theirs at Road America.

Although it made up three points at the previous round, the Muscle Milk squad is still 20-points behind the championship leading Highcroft Racing team and is hoping for a bigger points gain this weekend.

With Greg Pickett recovering from injuries suffered in a testing crash at Mid-Ohio, Muscle Milk Team CytoSport will be able to count on the help of another Porsche ace, Romain Dumas, in its championship battle.

The 2007 and 2008 ALMS champion will be joining the team’s regular driver Klaus Graf behind the wheel of one of his favorite racecars at one of his favorite racetracks.

A place where Dumas has scored two wins, including one overall, as well as two LMP2 class pole positions aboard the Porsche RS Spyder.

The team will be taking its first laps around the 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course at Mosport International Raceway on Friday, August 27 during a promoter test session which runs from 2:45 pm ET to 4:15 pm ET for the LMP and LMPC cars.

Official practice gets underway Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. ET with a one-hour session. Qualifying takes place on the same day at 4:50 p.m. ET.

The Mobil 1 presents the Grand Prix of Mosport will go green at 3:05 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on tape-delay on SPEED starting at 4:00 p.m. ET, Sunday August 29, 2010.

What they have to say:

Klaus Graf, Driver #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder

“It’s good to be heading into Mosport with a good result from Road America. These back-to-back races are not always easy and to come out from our last race with no damage or anything on the car obviously helps the guys in preparation for Mosport.

“Going to Canada, which we only go to once a year, is pretty exciting for us. It’s an awesome track that I think will be good for our Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder. There are a lot of long, long sweeping and very fast corners but it also has a long straightaway up the hill, so we’ll see.

“We have a lot of momentum going and I’ll have a new teammate in Romain Dumas. It will be great to have him with us. Timo did a great job at Road America and I don’t expect anything less from Romain. It’s going to be another good fight at Mosport. I can’t wait.”

Romain Dumas, driver #6 Muscle Milk Porsche RS Spyder

“It will be great to be back in the American Le Mans Series, more so because it is with the Porsche RS Spyder and with a great team that can win.

“I’m very happy to be able to get back behind the wheel of the Porsche RS Spyder again. It’s a great pleasure to drive and it’s a good car for Mosport. I have great memories from that track with this car.

“I’m also very excited to be joining Muscle Milk Team CytoSport. The team has been doing so well since its first time on track with the Porsche and they are proven winners. It’s an honor to be able to come and help in their championship battle. The team had a great race last weekend at Road America and I hope we can keep that going.

“I’m very much looking forward to the weekend.”
