Halton Hills native Gary Klutt won the exciting NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season opening race, the Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 in front of a huge crowd at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Klutt was at the right place at the right time and it paid off for him. Sitting in third place behind leader Scott Steckly and Andrew Ranger on the final lap, Klutt was able to get past the duo after they made contact in Turns 9 and 10 allowing the rookie to score his first career NASCAR Canadian Tire Series win in his seventh start.
The Pirelli World Challenge held their second GT Class race of Castrol presents the Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend. For the second day in a row, Johnny O’Connell was victorious in the Cadillac ATS-VR GT3. The Georgia driver was followed by Butch Leitzinger and Chris Dyson, both in Bentley Continental GT3’s. Lorenzo Trefethen took the checkered flag in GTC Class for the second straight day.
The Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin held its second race of the weekend. In Platinum Cup, Chris Green finished on the top step of the podium with Marco Cirone second and Daniel Morad third. In Gold Cup Bruno Chapinotti was first and Saturday’s winner Orey Fidani finished second.
On Saturday The Pirelli World Challenge GT class ran the first of its two weekend races. Johnny O’Connell finished first from pole position in a Cadillac ATS-VR GT3. He was followed to the line by the Pfaff Automotive McLaren 650S GT3 of Kevin Estre with Butch Leitzinger third in a Bentley Continental GT3. Colin Thompson finished first in the GTC class with Lorenzo Trefethen second.
The Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin held the first of its two weekend races. Starting from pole position, Pfaff Motorsports driver Chris Green won in the Platinum Cup class over Marco Cirone. Orey Fidani took the victory in Gold Cup with pole sitter Jerimy Daniel second.
Saturday’s racing also saw the Toyo Tires F1600 Series run the first leg of their weekend doubleheader. Michael Adams took the win over Reid Arnold.
