Barrichello denies saying title ‘closer than ever’

Rubens Barrichello has denied reports that he expects to fight for the world championship with Williams in 2010.

“The dream to become world champion is closer than ever,” the F1 veteran said on a recent visit to Cosworth’s Northampton headquarters.

But when the soundbite was published, 37-year-old wrote a clarification on his Twitter page.

“To be clear: I was asked if I thought that 2009 was my last chance to be champion.  I said no, that I always believe that tomorrow is going to be better.

“Hence, the statement ‘The title is closer than ever’, but I didn’t say that,” the Brazilian added.
