Chandhok to drive Lotus in Friday practice

Former HRT driver Karun Chandhok has joined Team Lotus as its 2011 reserve.

“He will be taking part in a number of Friday practice sessions for Team Lotus including FP1 in Melbourne,” said the team in a statement.

It was previously believed that Davide Valsecchi would be driving in Australia in first practice, but along with Ricardo Teixeira he is now only listed as a “test driver”.

Brazilian Luiz Razia, meanwhile, has been confirmed as Lotus’ “third driver”.

“I’ve been talking to the team for quite a while about a role with them and I’m delighted we’re now able to confirm that I will be driving for Team Lotus in 2011,” said Indian Chandhok.

He said the details of more Friday outings in 2011 “are being worked out now”.
