USF1, Campos, asking $5m for race seats – Doornbos

USF1 and Campos are asking drivers to pay US$5 million for race seats, Dutch racer Robert Doornbos has revealed.

Doornbos, 28, raced with Minardi and Red Bull a few years ago and has also been a F1 test driver.

He competed in last year’s Indycar series, and told nusport.nl that he held talks with two of the new F1 teams about 2010.

“We examined whether there were opportunities,” said Doornbos.

“There were some conversations with USF1 and Campos Meta who were interested, they were just asking for 5 million US dollars in sponsorship money.

“If I had that much, I would be at the front in the Indycar Series rather than at the back in formula one,” he added.

Three of the four vacant seats on the 2010 grid are with USF1 (2) and Campos (1).
