McCormick Captures First Title In Superbike Thriller

Pole sitter Brett McCormick of Saskatoon took the checkered flag in the first leg of the weekend Parts Canada Pro Superbike doubleheader over seven-time champion and Brantford star Jordan Szoke in a race for the ages.  The birthday boy (McCormick was celebrating his 20th birthday) trailed Szoke for much of the 20-lap feature before making a pass on the final turn of the race, winning the contest and clinching his first Series title by 0.053.  McCormick has now won all six races this season, with the seventh and final contest being held on Sunday (August 21).

Uxbridge native Alex Welsh was the victor in the Pirelli Pro Sport Bike race, edging points leader Jodi Christie of Keene, ON to the line by 0.070.  The local product gained valuable championship points as the title will now be decided in the final race of the season.

The Harley-Davidson Cup held it’s first of two weekend races, with Boca Raton, FL product Michael Barnes winning the 14-lap feature.  With a fourth place finish, Steve Crevier of Maple Ridge, BC secured the class championship in its inaugural season.  Crevier, always a crowd favourite, is best known for having won six career Pro Superbike titles.

The Mosport Superbike Doubleheader Weekend by Parts Canada concludes on Sunday with practice sessions for all six of the classes in the morning and races for the Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike and Honda CBR125R Challenge.  The Pirelli Pro Sport Bike, Amateur Sport Bike, Harley-Davidson XR1200 Cup, Parts Canada Pro Superbike and K&N Filter’s Amateur Superbike will run the second leg of their weekend doubleheaders.
