Szoke Remains Undefeated After Mosport Doubleheader

Defending champion Jordan Szoke of Brantford will leave Mosport International Raceway the same way he came, undefeated.  The Honda rider won the second halves of the weekend doubleheader’s in both the Parts Canada Superbike Feature and the Pro Sport Bike race.  The six-time Superbike champion has now won all 10 races that he has competed in this season.

The 31-year-old took off from pole position and never looked back.  He was able to put a substantial distance between his #1 ride and the rest of the field.  After repairs were made to Szoke’s bike following a slight radiator leak during Saturday’s race, Szoke showed that he was out to wrap up the weekend sweep at his favourite track.  The Brantford native now has a commanding lead in the points standing but couldn’t clinch his record breaking seventh Superbike title due to strong showings this weekend by his nearest rival, Francis Martin.

Martin, of Sherbrooke QC, finished in second place once again. The BMW Motorrad rider currently sits directly behind Szoke in the Parts Canada Superbike points standings.  Frank Trombino of Kleinburg, ON, who had been disqualified on Saturday for not having enough fuel to complete a Dyno post-race test, was able to take the third step on the podium on Sunday, giving Honda two bikes in the top-three.

17-year-old Jodi Christie of Keene, ON, gave Szoke his toughest test of the weekend in back-half of the Pro Sport Bike class’s doubleheader. Honda teammates Szoke and Christie were way ahead of the other riders and continued to trade the lead throughout the 14-lap affair.  Coming out of turn nine on the final lap, contact caused Christie to take a nasty spill, giving Szoke the victory over J-F Cyr by a 27.084 second margin.  Showing his toughness, Christie got back on his bike and finished the race in third place.

There was a glimpse into the future of racing as the first electric motorcycle race to run in Canada, the TTXGP eGrand Prix, took place on Sunday.  Michael Barnes of Boca Raton, FL took the checkered flag with Thad Wolff of Newbury Park, CA and San Francisco’s Jennifer Bromme finishing in third.
