Bryan Sellers Looks To Keep Sun On His Back In Miami

HOMESTEAD, FL, February 28, 2011 – Bryan Sellers returns to Florida this weekend for the third of four scheduled sports car appearances in the “Sunshine State”. The March 5, Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge (CTSCC), Homestead 200 is an opportunity to keep the sun shining on his back after a GT class podium finish in Grand-Am’s premier event, the Rolex 24 at Daytona, late last month. The Braselton, GA-resident will share the No. 33 Sail on Travel Inc./Vion-Hitachi Data Systems BMW M3 Coupe with Jade Buford (Brentwood, TN) in Saturday’s two hour, 30-minute race here at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS). The BMW, prepared by Georgia-based Kintetic Motorsports, will compete for overall honors in the Grand Sport (GS) class for production-based cars. The race marks the third in a planned 17-race, three-series schedule for the sports car racing “young gun”.

 

Sellers opened his 2011 race season with a double-header at Daytona at the end of January. A mechanical issue – stemming from a rear impact of the BMW by another car – sidelined the No. 33 early in the CTSCC race preceding the 24-hour event. However, Sellers personally rallied the following day taking a career-best Rolex Series finish of second in GT class at the Rolex 24. It is that success the native Ohioan hopes to carry into Saturday’s sprint race at the 2.3-mile, 11-turn Homestead-Miami circuit.

 

The South-Florida track, which mixes the circuit’s banked oval and infield road course, has been the sight of previous, strong performances for Sellers. In fact, the former open wheel racing champion made his sports car racing debut here in 2005 winning the Rolex Series GT class pole position in his first-ever attempt. While Sellers will not be racing in Sunday’s Rolex Series event this weekend, his experience and understanding of the facility should pay impressive dividends in Saturday’s CTSCC event.

 

Sellers will conclude his Florida tour with the March 19 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. There he will pilot the No. 017 Team Falken Tire Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in American Le Mans Series GT class competition. The event will mark the first ALMS race of the season, and Sellers’ final race appearance in Florida of the year.

 

Bryan Sellers: “I enjoy Homestead very much; it is a very tricky race track. It’s very low grip and places car set-up at a premium and that is the kind of challenge I like. This is where I first started my sports car racing career and qualified on the pole in my first start.  Hopefully we can repeat the same success I had then this weekend!”
