The Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires Returns to Mosport This Weekend For the Vortex Brake Pads 200

(TORONTO – June 11, 2010) – After an exciting kickoff to the season at Victoria Day SpeedFest, the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires is back in action this weekend at Mosport for the Vortex Brake Pads 200 (June 11-13), the second of seven events on the 2010 calendar.

A full menu of exciting touring car action is in store at Mosport, as a big field of 35 entries will make the trip to the venerable 4 kilometre road course north of Bowmanville, Ontario.

On-track activity gets underway with test sessions today, followed by practice, qualifying and races on Saturday and Sunday.

After finishing a close second in both races at SpeedFest last month, defending Super Touring Class Champion Nick Wittmer will be looking to move up to the top step on the podium. The Lombardi Honda Racing driver is currently second in points and with a good weekend could leave Mosport with the lead in the championship.

The Audette Racing Acura RSX of Mathieu Audette and the Donington Wenzel Motorsports Subaru WRX of Dave Ciekiewicz are tied for third in points and both figure to be in contention for podium positions this weekend. Wittmer’s Lombardi teammates Benjamin Dustaulo and Alex Healy should also be in the mix near the front of the field after combining for one top-five and two top-ten results in the opening round.

The storyline is similar in the Touring Class, as points leader Anthony Rapone of Durabond Racing aims to collect more Mosport wins after sweeping both races in the opening round. Putting his Honda Civic Si back on top of the podium will present a tough challenge, however, due to a deep field that will include 2009 Touring Class Champion Alain Lauziere, who will be making his season debut behind the wheel of one of two Octane Motorsports Mini Coopers. Among the other drivers to watch this weekend is P.J. Groenke, who will make his debut in his team’s VW GTi, after posting two podium results for Octane Motorsports at SpeedFest. Tom Kwok is third in points and will be looking to improve upon his third and fourth in-class finishes for the M&S Racing Honda Civic.

The Saturday schedule begins with a 25 minute practice session from 8:15 a.m. – 8:40 a.m. Qualifications will run from 10:05 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., setting the grid for the 30-minute heat race which will get underway at 1:25 pm.

On Sunday, a 30-minute warm-up session beginning at 10:20 a.m. will give competitors a final chance to adjust their set-ups for the second race of the weekend, scheduled to run from 3:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
