Eric Boullier confirmed as new Renault team boss

Eric Boullier was on Tuesday confirmed as Renault’s new team principal.

The 36-year-old Frenchman is the former boss of the GP2 team DAMS and France’s A1 team, and the CEO of the Gravity Sport driver management company, with links to Enstone based Renault’s new main owner Genii Capital.

Bob Bell, who took over the team principal role after Flavio Briatore was ousted for the crashgate scandal last year, will return to his former post as technical director.

Boullier’s appointment, first reported before Christmas, sparked speculation that Robert Kubica’s 2010 teammate will come from the Gravity stable, such as Ho-Pin Tung or Jerome d’Ambrosio. “It might be a Gravity driver or not, but I can guarantee that it will be even more difficult for a Gravity driver to be selected as they really will have to prove their worth to be chosen as Renault’s second driver,” he said.
