Lombardi Honda Racing Team will return to Mosport this weekend

Nick Wittmer, Alex Healy and Benjamin Distaulo aiming for the “Top 5” at Mosport

Montréal, June 7 2010.- After a fruitful first racing weekend highlighted by two podiums, the Lombardi Honda Racing Team will return to the Mosport track (Ontario) for the second round of the season. The 2009 Touring Car Champion team is pulling out all the stops to see its three drivers Quebeckers Nick Wittmer and Benjamin Distaulo and Ontarian Alex Healy among the front-runners at these upcoming two races.

After having finished second at the two races held on Victoria Day weekend last month, reigning champion Nick Wittmer, of Montreal, is particularly confident : « we are finished the development of my Civic Si; the car is really powerful with a good top speed and I’m not worried at all about this coming weekend » declared Nick. « I’m eyeing nothing less than another podium at Mosport. My goal is to defend my championship title by the end of the season so I need to accumulate the maximum amount of points possible » he adds.

Benjamin Distaulo, of Ville Lorraine, had a strong debut with the Lombardi Honda Racing team, proving his talent with fifth and sixth final finishing positions. « I broke the ice at the first round and I am very comfortable with my Civic Si. I calculated that I still need to gain half a second per lap to reach the car’s maximum potential but I am confident that this round at Mosport, a track that I rediscovered last month, will enable me to reach that level. » confides Benjamin. « The Lombardi Honda Racing Team mechanics have worked really hard on the car’s power and I believe that I am now in a place where I can fight for the podium » mentions Distaulo.

As for Torontonian Alex Healy, the small mechanical gremlins he suffered in the first race have been put behind him and the 2009 Rookie of the Year heads to Mosport with the confidence of a winner, as he displayed during the second round last month, climbing from last place to finish in seventh : « We have a new engine for this race and the car will be much faster so I think a podium finish is realistic. I want the team to be proud of me and I’d love to see the three of us in the top 5, or even better, all three on the podium.  That would be awsome! » explains Alex.

Lombardi Honda Racing’s team owner has set the goal of having all three Honda Civic Si’s in the top 5 : « we have worked on the cars’ engine power and other adjustments and we have big hopes of being even more competitive. One thing is for sure, we are really 100% focused on this weekend’s races. Three weeks ago at the first double-header, we saw at what level we are situated and we can now say that we are aiming for the top 5 for each of our drivers » says Tony Lombardi.

The Lombardi Honda Racing Team has three goals for this season, including the driver’s title, the team title, and the manufacturer championship for Honda. Scoring points at each round is the priority for the team, as mentions Tony Lombardi : « with 55 drivers registered, the Canadian Touring Car Championship is more hotly contested than ever and every victory is important. We need to score as many point as possible with each of our three drivers to ensure a good overall result at each round in hopes of winning the championship » he concludes.

Lombardi Honda Racing will contest all rounds of the 2010 Canadian Touring Car Championship, which includes two visits to Mosport to kick off the season before heading to the Grand Prix in Mirabel, Toronto, and Trois -Rivières. The season ends with a third trip to Mosport at the end of August and a second visit to Mirabel in mid-September.
